Oroville Dam injury accident leads to OSHA fine

The state Department of Water Resources is being fined $141,000 for an accident at Oroville Dam last year that injured five workers. An investigation by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration found five serious safety violations that contributed to the accident, which caused a giant steel bulkhead to fail, subjecting the workers to hurricane-force winds in a valve-control room deep inside the dam. The accident caused water releases from the dam to be reduced for much of the day after the July 22 incident
