Bartender, 80, still pours his heart and soul into job
It’s been the same way for almost 60 years: Nick Stathos carefully places a white cocktail napkin on the bar, uses both of his hands to shake one of yours and then asks what you’d like to drink. Nick Stathos, bartender at the Back Door Lounge in Old Sacramento, chats with patron Kiera Burige of Walnut Creek. Stathos, who turns 80 today, started bartending in 1954 at his family’s two establishments in downtown Sacramento and still works a late-night shift four days a week.
Registration opens for Thanksgiving charity run
The organizer, the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, has opened registration for the Nov. 25 5K and 10K run, which last year drew more than 28,000 runners and walkers, making it one of the top five Thanksgiving running events in the nation.
