On July 24, 2010, at 12:04 a.m., Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the report of a shooting at a home in the 6200 block of Welty Way. When deputies arrived they found a 12-year-old male lying in the bathroom and suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper chest. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive

Youngsters who read will be among the winners at this year’s California State Fair. The State Fair and carnival operator Butler Amusements will reprise the Read to Ride program, which attracted 5,000 participants last year.
