Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner today ordered his department to scrutinize claims payment systems and data collection used by Anthem Blue Cross, which is preparing a new rate filing after withdrawing an earlier plan to hike premiums by as much as 39 percent on thousands of Californians. “I will not allow insurers to inflate their rates based on faulty systems or inaccurate data,” Poizner said in a statement.

IRS gets the word out: new healthcare tax breaks for small businesses

More than 500,000 IRS postcards are going out this week to California small businesses and tax-exempt groups that may qualify for new tax credits on their employees’ healthcare premiums.
