Arena quest: Exclusive negotiating agreement plan proceeds

In a key step for a plan to build a new sports arena in the downtown railyards, the Sacramento City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to direct city staff to work with the proposal’s development team on the language for a six-month exclusive negotiating agreement. The council will have final say on the terms of the negotiating agreement next month. If the terms are finalized, city staff and the developers behind the plan – called Convergence – would spend 180 days working out several details of the proposal.

Dispute over value of Sacramento railyard land goes to arbitrator

A three-year, multimillion-dollar land dispute between the city of Sacramento and the downtown railyard owner landed before a court arbitrator this week. The disagreement is over the value of 33 acres the city is buying from Thomas Enterprises – a small corner of the railyard that took on big proportions last week when it emerged as the likely site for a sports and entertainment facility to replace Arco Arena. A mayoral task force last week recommended that the city negotiate with a developer who proposes to privately finance an arena just behind the I Street train depot.
